It’s Simple – Do What’s Good For You

I was chatting with a friend recently and we were reflecting on how easy it is to feel good. When we eat the foods we know our bodies need, get enough sleep, spend quality time with the people we love, do the things that make you feel alive you feel whole, balanced and joyful. It's simple, yet the way we live our lives makes it seem unattainable unless you are prepared to make huge sacrifices. Here's a simple prescription to come back to yourself and give yourself what you know you need.

  • 1.Simplify Your Life

The reality is, our lives are complicated because we make them complicated. When we are trying to be everything to everyone, we end up feeling burnt out and disconnected from ourselves. So you don't have to be the super-mom living in a pristine home with kids enrolled in a gazillion extra-curricular activities, while you climb the corporate ladder, take care of your aging parents, volunteer on the school PTA all while looking perfect in your social media selfies.Stop, just stop. When you simplify your life, you can transform your future.

  • 2.Come Back to What's Truly Important

When we get caught in the busyness of life, we often forget what is important to us.When I was in the corporate world, my daughter used to beg me to pick her up from pre-school. I thought it was "impossible" to be able to leave work to pick her up at lunchtime to then drop her by her grandmother. But in hindsight, I realize it would not have been easy to make that happen once a month and it would have meant the world to my little girl and aligned with what I really cared about.

Once we simplify our lives, we have the space to reconnect to the things that truly matter to us.What brings you joy – is it music, art, dance, cooking? What are the values that you want to live by – giving back, prayer and devotion, family? What impact do you want to make on those who you encounter on this journey of life?

  • 3.Take Small Actions Consistently

While it may be simple, it's not necessarily easy to do what's good for our mind, body and spirit, especially when it seems like we are being pulled in different directions. But you can take small steps to start creating the life that you want.If your schedule is full because you take on too much, practice saying "no" and setting boundaries. If sitting for 20 minutes in meditation sounds daunting, start your day with 5 minutes of meditation. If you know eating wholesome food makes you feel good, order produce delivery or a few catered meals.Whatever it is, take small steps to bring you back to your true self.

  • 4.Get Support

For most of the problems we face, there is someone who has been through it before and can provide advice or someone who provides a service that can help.Otherwise, it may be a great business opportunity if you come up with a new solution! The first step in getting support is giving yourself permission to ask for help and accepting that you do not need to do it on your own.Once you are open the universe sends you exactly what you need.It may be a coach to guide you to the answers within your heart, it may be a friend that will hold you accountable to your small action steps or it may be from your family members who start contributing more to the home.

When you nurture your body, mind and spirit, you experience life in a radically different way.But first we need to get down to the basics of what we need physically and what our heart desires.
