Managing our mobile minutes using 3G/4G/ Wi-fi Internet platforms and smartphone apps

Trinis love their cell phones. That is a fact. Look around - nine out of ten people may either be talking or messaging. And with the major uptake of smartphones such as Apple’s iPhone, Samsung Galaxy’s S4, even Blu’s offering, we are loving our cell phones even more.

 

These smartphones come with a wealth of features - the most well-known feature being the wireless component that supports 3G/4G/ Wi-Fi. We have many uses for it - be it to send a BBM or WhatsApp message, upload that embarrassing moment to Facebook, Instagram or YouTube. But do you know that it can also be used as a vehicle to save on the use of your mobile minutes?

Most of us are moving away from desktop computers and satisfying our computing needs with laptops / notebooks. Primary reason is that we no longer want to be tethered to one spot, but possess the freedom to move to any location we desire.
This blog is not about mobility, it is about cost savings. Which leads to the question - do we really need to pay upwards of TT$2,500.00 for a laptop, when we really only use the device for checking Facebook, Twitter, our e-mails, and occasionally create content - i.e. create documents and spreadsheets? If the answer is no, then read on.
